Bill Magee Blues Band tore up the stage this afternoon at La Jolla Concerts by the Sea and the crowd loved them! The dancing never stopped as Bill and his band, consisting of Jasper Austin on harp & congos, Mike Mitchell on guitar, James Gilbin on sax, bass player Mike Sandlewood & drummer Boyd Gardner played one great song after another from such great blues writers as BB King, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Albert King, James Brown & a lot more. Part-way through the show, La Jolla Concerts By the Sea President Shirleymae Davis took the mic from our Master-of-Ceremonies Ron J. Jones to ask all gathered to join her in wishing Ron a happy birthday. “Ron J”, who was joined onstage by his wife Cathy, was treated to a rousing version of “Happy Birthday,” accompanied by the band, who took “Happy Birthday” in a decidedly “bluesy” direction. Ron, who has served as host of the Concerts for 16 consecutive years, danced, mugged, bowed and seemed generally quite pleased.
